Ed Sheeran is proving once again that when it comes to album promotions, creativity is key. In the lead-up to his upcoming album Play, the global superstar has rolled out a series of inventive experiences — the latest being “Play Phone Booths” that popped up this past weekend in London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Madrid, and Naples.
Fans stepping into the vintage-inspired booths were treated to exclusive song teasers, creating buzz across social media. Each booth was also stocked with custom drink coasters from “The Old Phone,” a nostalgic pop-up pub Sheeran debuted earlier this year in Ipswich, MA.
The inspiration for these projects stemmed from Sheeran’s new single “Old Phone,” whose video explores the bittersweet emotions tied to old conversations and lost loved ones. Reflecting that theme, Sheeran invited fans to submit meaningful messages and videos from their old phones to participate in the pub experience.
Sheeran’s promotional blitz also included surprise mini-shows in Boston, Nashville, and even a Coachella cameo. Fans can look forward to more excitement this summer when Sheeran headlines three nights at Portman Road Stadium in Suffolk, joined by special guests like Tori Kelly, Busted, and James Blunt.
Play is set for release on September 12.
