More than 5,000 boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal were recently recalled in two states due to foreign object contamination.
As Health magazine reports, last week, the Food and Drug Administration gave the recall the second-highest risk level. The FDA reports that the recalled cereal may contain metal. Foreign objects can enter foods at some point during the production process and often present a safety hazard.
In late May, Post Consumer Brands, LLC voluntarily recalled 5,376 cereal boxes with the following information:
- Product Name: Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds
- Size: 3 lbs. (48 oz.), split into two bags for freshness
- UPC: 8 84912-01428 3
- Best if Used By: APR0926 RCA, and APR1026 RCA
The recall is affecting cereal boxes sent to Sam’s Club locations in the states of Colorado and California.
The FDA has given the recall a class II risk level, which means eating the affected cereal “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” or where the chance of serious health consequences is “remote.”
It is advised that if you shop at Sam’s Club and purchased Honey Bunches of Oats, you may want to double-check your cereal to err on the safe side. If you do have the recalled cereal, toss or return it.
