And the Creative Director Musical Chairs stops on… Jonathan Anderson for House of Dior And the Creative Director Musical Chairs stops on… Jonathan Anderson for House of Dior

The game of Creative Director Musical Chairs continues.

Four days after Maria Grazia Chiuri announced she would be stepping down from her role as Dior’s creative director of women’s fashion after nine years, the LVMH-owned house has confirmed that Jonathan Anderson will take on the overarching role of creative director, leading women’s, men’s and haute couture collections for the fashion house.

As Fashionista reports, this follows the April announcement that he would be taking over menswear from Kim Jones. “It is a great honor to join the House of Dior as Creative Director of both women’s and men’s collections,” Anderson said in a statement. “I have always been inspired by the rich history of this house, its depth and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary Ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story.”

Anderson’s appointment marks the first time since Christian Dior himself that a director will work across all three design categories, “further strengthening [Dior’s] global creative vision,” the brand said in a statement.

“I am so delighted to welcome Jonathan Anderson to lead the women’s and men’s creations of the House,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture, Delphine Arnault, in a statement. “I have followed his career with great interest since he joined the LVMH group over 10 years ago. I am convinced that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our House, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior and the codes he created. He will be supported by our teams and our incredible Ateliers who will bring his creativity to life.”

As for Chiuri, don’t hold your breath seeing which design house snatches her up. She has switched focus away from the polish of Paris, and toward home: the magnificent, loud soul of her native Rome. In 2020 she purchased the Teatro della Cometa, and according to The Business of Fashion she will now be spending much of her time restoring the historical jewel-box theater – at least for now.
