Brent Hinds Breaks Silence on Mastodon Exit, Calls Bandmates “Horrible Humans”

After months of relative silence, Brent Hinds is finally speaking out following his departure from Mastodon — and he’s not pulling any punches.

Hinds, one of the founding members of the Grammy-winning metal giants, left the band earlier this year after 25 years. Though the official statement at the time described the split as mutual, Hinds’ recent Instagram activity paints a much different picture.

When Mastodon shared a post celebrating the 11th anniversary of their acclaimed album Once More ‘Round the Sun, fans flooded the comments with praise for both the album and Hinds’ contributions. One fan even lamented, “Definitely gonna miss B. Hinds though.”

Hinds himself jumped into the conversation, bluntly writing, “I won’t miss being in a s** band with horrible humans.”*

The comment stunned fans, but Hinds has made it clear he’s moving forward. His rockabilly-tinged side project, Fiend Without a Face, is gearing up for summer shows in Europe, including stops in Sweden and Portugal. With Hinds free of Mastodon obligations, fans may finally get new music from the long-dormant band — and perhaps more unfiltered opinions from the outspoken guitarist.
