Inside Story

Bruce Springsteen Unveils “Faithless,” a Haunting Glimpse Into a Soundtrack That Never Was

Bruce Springsteen is diving deep into his vaults once again, and this time, he’s delivering ghosts from a film that never made it to the screen. The legendary songwriter has just released “Faithless,” a gentle, haunting ballad lifted from his upcoming Tracks II: The Lost Albums box set, due out June 27.

Recorded during a creative burst in late 2005, “Faithless” is the title track of an imagined spiritual Western — a film that never got filmed, but left behind a soundtrack full of atmosphere and intention. The acoustic-driven song, filled with whispers of devotion and quiet longing, leans into the mystical terrain of the American West, with Springsteen’s signature storytelling bolstered by soaring female harmonies and sparse instrumentation.

“Faithless” is one of seven unreleased albums featured in Tracks II, a sprawling 83-track collection that spans decades of shelved material, demos, and near-forgotten sessions. The set offers an unfiltered look into Springsteen’s prolific creativity between 1983 and 2018 — a testament to the myth and music of an American icon who never stops finding new paths to follow.
