More than five decades after Led Zeppelin turned “Dazed and Confused” into a rock staple, the original composer is once again fighting for recognition. Jake Holmes has filed a new copyright infringement lawsuit against Jimmy Page, this time also naming Sony Pictures and other co-defendants involved in the Becoming Led Zeppelin documentary.
Filed in a California federal court, the complaint accuses Page and the production team of misattributing the song to Page and licensing it as such without Holmes’ permission. The film features two early live recordings that Holmes says were used without proper credit or compensation.
This isn’t Holmes’ first legal clash with Page over the track. He previously filed suit in 2011, claiming authorship of the haunting, minor-key tune that Page first performed with the Yardbirds. Now, Holmes claims a cease-and-desist has been ignored and cites additional unauthorized releases, including Yardbirds ’68 and Live at the BBC Revisited.
Seeking at least $150,000 per infringement, Holmes is asking the court to finally correct what he views as decades of misattribution — and reclaim his rightful place in rock history.
