The Foo Fighters have dusted off a decades-old project to honor one of punk’s most iconic bands. On Tuesday, the band released their explosive cover of Minor Threat’s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It,” nearly 30 years after recording the original instrumental tracks.
The song, a staple from Minor Threat’s 1981 debut EP, finally got vocals thanks to frontman Dave Grohl, who completed the track in 2025. For Grohl, the release is more than just a musical tribute—it’s personal. A lifelong fan of Ian MacKaye’s work in both Minor Threat and Fugazi, Grohl has long credited the D.C. punk scene as foundational to his musical identity.
“They made hardcore what it is,” Grohl once said, citing the band’s raw sound and straight-edge ethos as key influences. The cover retains that spirit—fierce, urgent, and unpolished—while showcasing the Foo Fighters’ signature energy.
This surprise release marks a rare moment of activity for the band, who have remained mostly quiet since 2023’s But Here We Are, their first album following the loss of drummer Taylor Hawkins. With a tour scheduled for October and a lineup change looming, the cover is a timely nod to their roots as they prepare for a new chapter.
