The music world continues to mourn the loss of Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, whose official cause of death has now been confirmed. According to documents obtained by Fox News Digital, Wilson passed away due to respiratory arrest on June 11 at the age of 82.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office listed respiratory arrest as the immediate cause, with contributing factors including sepsis, cystitis, chronic respiratory failure, kidney disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and a neurodegenerative disorder. An autopsy was not performed.
Wilson’s family shared the heartbreaking news earlier this month, writing, “We are at a loss for words right now… Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving.”
The iconic singer-songwriter had been under a conservatorship since 2023 following a dementia diagnosis and the passing of his wife, Melinda Wilson. The conservatorship aimed to maintain stability for Wilson and his family, ensuring his care and living arrangements remained unchanged.
As a founding member of the Beach Boys, Wilson’s influence on popular music is immeasurable. From timeless hits like “Good Vibrations” to the groundbreaking Pet Sounds, his legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians and fans alike.
