It was a family-friendly night of stand up comedy, crowd work (ad-libbing with the audience), and distinctly unique perspectives on Hawaii and the world on Sunday night as “Da OG’s of Hawaii Comedy” held their final Hawaii concert at the Hawaii Theatre.
Last week it was announced that Frank DeLima would be scaling back his live appearances, including his local Student Enrichment programs. Talk of Mr. DeLima retiring had many turn out last night in support…and he headlined the concert dressed as a fully-lit Christmas tree and proceeded to do his “Filipino Christmas” song 🙂
Though earlier opening the night was stand up comedian Augie T. – elected City Councilperson Augie Tulba – he kept the jokes and observations true to his roots, heating up the room for the first act: legendary comedian, actor, talk show host, and current podcast/YouTube star Andy Bumatai.
Las Vegas-based stand up Paul Ogata (formerly of Pearl City and later California) continued his brand of hilarity with a touch of crowd work aka talking story with the audience!
Augie would return to the mic in between each comic’s performance and welcomed Mr. DeLima – with his production assistant Bryan Nakasone – behind the curtain…as a Christmas tree hahaha!
The night was light and fun, no indication of Mr. DeLima slowing down until he was saying he’d be on hiatus. It was a sweet touch for him to walk through the crowd and exit onto Bethel Street to continue the greetings and selfies with fans and friends in the next door Hawaii Theatre gallery. Support Local!
